I know from personal experience how confusing ‘good nutrition’ can be! Search the internet what is the optimal diet for humans and the answers are as different and sometimes, as ridiculous as the next!
Contradictory headlines regarding health and food and how the media reports on them, virtually guarantee this confusion.
Simply put, there is no way to answer the question “What is the optimal human diet?” because there is no single, optimal diet for every “one”.
We are all different, unique individuals and these differences—in our genes, behaviour, lifestyle, age, gut microbiome, environment, where we live, what we do—influence how we process the macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, and fat) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals).
But although there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach to eating better, there are core nutritional principles that apply to everyone.

For example, I think we can all agree that over indulging in cakes, cookies, and other highly processed, refined foods is unhealthy. And most people would agree that eating whole, unprocessed foods is healthy.
It’s the middle ground where we get into trouble. Is wheat good or bad? If it’s bad, does that apply to all grains, or just processed wheat like in cereals and cakes? What about sour dough or gluten free? Can I eat dairy products? Is all sugar bad for me? What about honey?
Modern healthy eating advice is often confusing, contradictory, or just plain wrong. And, while there’s no such thing as one optimal human diet, there are some foods we are designed to eat and some nutritionally proven protocols that can help a particular health condition like arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, etc.
I am passionate about natural health and the prevention of illness by taking a food first approach. I’m here to help you navigate the food minefield and get to the root cause of your own health issues.

I have just completed Antoinette's Happy Gut 28 day challenge. I do not need to loose a lot of weight but was interested to learn about gut health. As part of our Department’s Health and Wellbeing strategy, we organised a lunch and learn session on Gut Health which was presented by Antoinette Witter from The Happy Gut Clinic. We were treated to a table full of healthy options, followed by an energised and dynamic presentation. Antoinette made it so personal from the get-go that it was obvious she is living proof of how good gut health can change your life. The presentation was entertaining and funny and we gained so many insights into how simple lifestyle and dietary adjustments can lead to positive life-changing changes which affect your physical and mental wellbeing.
I had the most amazing experience working with Antoinette. Over the last 6 weeks I have learned, among many other things, how to introduce more variety into my diet, eat seasonally, and live a more sustainable lifestyle through a better diet. It doesn’t matter if you’re 18 or 78, a fitness freak or a college student, Antoinette will be able to pass on expert knowledge to teach you something new that will have a positive impact on both your life and your health!

Our interaction with Antoinette starred from a conversation about gout! My husband had been suffering from intermittent but very painful bouts of gout. The pain level led to inaction, which in turn made weight loss a challenge. Cue Antoinette! The first consultation was exhaustive, probing health conditions and duration. Based on that consultation a plan was devised to both alleviate the symptoms of gout and a change to our eating habits that has had outstanding results. In just 8 weeks, the gout has gone, and the husband is on his way to achieving a realistic weight loss goal. Realistic is very much a key word in all this. The eating plan recommended by Antoinette is easy to follow. No wacky ingredients, flavoursome and interesting food, no calorie counting. The goals set are achievable and seeing results going in the right direction is hugely encouraging. You don’t have to hibernate at home; eating out at restaurants or with friends is easy on this plan. No preaching, no bullying and an open minded approach so that plans can be tweaked if an element simply doesn’t suit you. She takes you through the reasons why for certain elements so that all is easy to comprehend and makes perfect sense. This in turn enables you to accept the recommendations with ease. The low carbohydrate plan is easy to embrace with swiftly visible results. This has led us to a lifestyle change which will have long term benefits for us both. I emphasise lifestyle change as that is what we needed to do. With Antoinette’s professional guidance, help and support making the switch has been easy. There’s simply no reason not to do it!!!!
